California Urban IPM Apprenticeship

Green Shield Certified and the University of California Statewide IPM Program (UC IPM) invite pest management professionals to apply for a two-year structural and landscape pest management apprenticeship. California professionals who participate in this apprenticeship will develop the required skills to evaluate, improve and implement outdoor and/or indoor Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs and practices across three target regions in California (Los Angeles, Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area).

Apprentices who complete the program will develop skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  1. Business management in the structural and landscape pest management industry.
  2. Best management practices for rodents, invertebrates, weeds and plant pathogens.
  3. State and federal regulations which impact the structural and landscape pest management industry.
  4. Pesticide selection, mixing, application, storage and safety strategies which protect human and environmental health and offer additional protections beyond regulatory requirements.
  5. How to complete comprehensive inspections to determine optimal IPM strategies for management of structural and landscape pests.
